EYAA Softball Team Placement

Division age for softball is determined by the age the player reached as of 12/31 of the previous year. For example, if a child turns 9 on 1/1, their league age for the upcoming season is 8.

With player safety and well-being in mind, players can play up an age division based on individual skills and comfort level with the game. This is the sole discretion of the Softball Commissioner. In certain circumstances players are allowed to play down a division if they have yet to gain the skills to compete safely in a division. This situation requires approval from the League board.

EYAA Softball offers the following divisions:

8U: The goal of AA Softball is for players to have fun playing softball and learn the basic skills and knowledge of the game. This division utilizes a machine to pitch an 11" safety softball to the batter. This division is suitable for players that are aged 7 and 8. Players that are age 6 and have played at least one year of Tball/6U Softball are also eligible.

10U: Age 9-10 will build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. This is an instructional league where the players pitch an 11" softball. This division is suitable for any player between the ages of 9 and 10. Players that have played at least one year of 8U and are age 8 can be considered for this division, with Commissioner approval.

12U (Age 11-12), 14U (Age 13-14) and 16U (Age 15-16): These divisions will continue to build and refine their skills while getting a taste for competition. This is a competitive division where the players pitch a standard sized softball. Thes divisions are available based on registration numbers.

Our Approach:

1. Friendship and Fun First:

  • At the heart of our team selection process is the emphasis on fostering friendships and ensuring that every young athlete has a fun and enjoyable experience.

2. Consideration for Friendships:

  • We understand the importance of playing alongside friends, classmates, and family members. Our team selection process considers these relationships and requests to create a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere.

3. Inclusivity and Skill Development:

  • Our focus extends beyond assembling a team solely based on winning games. We prioritize inclusivity and skill development, creating an environment where every player feels valued and can grow.

4. Coach's Commitment to Development:

  • While our coaches are passionate about the game, their primary commitment is to the overall development of each player. They strive to create a positive and encouraging space where skills are honed, confidence is built, and friendships flourish.

5. Team Unity and Support:

  • We believe that a unified team spirit contributes to both individual and collective success. Our team selection process aims to build cohesion and camaraderie, ensuring that players support and uplift each other on and off the field.

6. Softball Commissioner Makes the Team Decisions

  • It is ultimately up to the Softball Commissioner to select the teams based on their understanding of the players’ abilities and how they believe each player will contribute to the overall success of the team.
